This service pack demonstrates Mitel’s philosophy of minimising costs for customers and continually improving products even after they are sold and installed.
In addition to the quality enhancements, MiVoice Office R6.0 SP1 introduces new features to further improve our value proposition. These new features are intended for a broad spectrum of users and applicable to a wide variety of small and medium-sized business’s (SMB’s).
New Mitel 5000 features when you upgrade
Older sites upgrading to Release 5.1 and above will benefit from Dynamic Extension Express, Hot Desking, Meet-Me Conferencing & UVM E-Mail Synchronization. These features are already included in every new base package purchase, today.
MiVoice Office R6.0 SP1 provides several key enhancements to its existing features and capabilities. These include:
Mid-Call Features (MCF) for Dynamic Extensions
Mid-Call Features (MCF) allow mobile users with Dynamic Extension Express to take advantage of such core PBX features as Hold, Transfer, Conference, etc., for quick and simple consultation with “in-office” colleagues. MCF extends the MiVoice Office capabilities to mobile devices for maximum flexibility and productivity. It is delivered through a set of voice guided menus rather than users having to remember feature codes. (Note, prompt language is automatically aligned with that of the user’s main extension.)
With MCF, once you place the original call on hold, you will be prompted to either transfer to, or conference in another party. For example, you can transfer to a colleague, to the company operator or auto-attendant or even to an outside line. Over time, as the user becomes more accustomed, they can easily type-ahead over the voice prompts.
Mitel MiVoice Border Gateway (MBG) – Teleworker Functionality
MiVoice Office provides a no-cost option for remote IP phones, suitable for most customers. Some customers require (and are willing to pay for) more robust capabilities offered by the Teleworker functionality of the Mitel MiVoice Border Gateway (MBG) R8.0 SP2 product. The primary reasons why a customer might choose MBG over the MiVoice Office’s native capabilities are:
Enhanced security – MBG provides encrypted communication over the Internet.
No access to customer’s firewall – MBG eliminates the need to configure the customer’s firewall.
While the original Release 6.0 software specifically targeted support of remote 5300 Series IP Phones, SP1 offers a fully qualified MBG SIP integration, including support for MiCollab Clients for desktop & Android platforms (note, iOS support is coming soon afterwards), along with Mitel & third party SIP end-points. The MBG solution (including Web Proxy) significantly increases the overall level of security for remote MiVoice Office IP users.
Automatic Prefix “0” Insertion for SIP Trunks
MiVoice Office SP1 delivers automatic local dialing prefix insertion for incoming SIP trunks within UK & Australian configurations. Some sites may experience issues when PSTN providers do not send local dialing prefix (0, 00, and 0011) as part of the caller id. In turn, when the caller id does not match any Speed Dial number, the user info is not shown on the display. This would also result in the end user not being able to redial the incoming external number.
Similar to PRI/BRI trunks (in UK and AU regions), now when the caller ID is provided with no local prefixes on SIP Trunks, MiVoice Office automatically adds such prefixes. Simply put, this lines up with what is available on digital trunks today.
There are a lot of additional programming features that have been introduced but hopefully this gives you a flavour of the new release.
