Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Opus is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Baseline Year: 2019-2020 |

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations. | |
This is the first time we have reported our carbon footprint, so this calculation establishes our baseline.
The year is based on our Financial Year and runs May-April. The primary operations and activities that account for scope 1 and 2 emissions include the use of fuel for company vehicles and electricity consumption. The base year emissions cover 100% of scope 1 and 2 emissions. Scope 3 emissions reporting includes Business travel/Hotel Stays, Business Mileage (Non-Company Car) and Waste generated in operations *assumption Our baseline deviates from the requirements of PPN 06/21 as there is no historic reporting in Scope 3 for – Employee commuting |

Emission Reduction Targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 53.5 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 10.66%
Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:
Carbon Reduction: Projected vs. Actual
Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2019 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equates to 15.97 tCO2e, a 19.53%ge reduction against the 2019 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.
- Electric company vehicles only
- Closed London office reducing railway travel
- Hybrid working.
- Implement timers to automatically switch off TV’s in head office
- To effectively manage our environmental impacts, we continue to operate a ISO14001certified environmental management system.
- Annual Environmental Awareness training for all staff.
Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives
In the future, we hope to implement further measures such as:
- Implement the use of energy-efficient lighting in all areas of head office
- Exec Board leading by example demonstrating best practice behaviours in carbon reduction starting with the introduction of electric-only vehicles
- Implement a salary sacrifice scheme for electric vehicle leasing
- Continuing to work with our landlord to switch electricity supply to renewable energy
- Continued investment in technology enabling us to interact remotely by means of reducing business travel
- Look into using a hotel booking platform enabling businesses to reduce and remove their carbon footprint from hotel bookings.
