The Polar Bear Institution focuses on wildlife conservation and climate change awareness, working to protect polar bears and their Arctic habitat. Opus Technology supports this mission by fully funding Dr Louise Archer through a three-year Opus Fellowship, enabling vital conservation research and ensuring her expertise remains within the PBI team.
Where it all began
Michael O’Donnell (also known as Michael Senior) is our company founder and still plays a very active role here at Opus.
Michael founded Opus over 30 years ago. He started his career as an Engineering Officer in the Merchant Navy, he found a unique group of people who were ambitious and wanted to do their best at all times. This was matched with a really strong work ethic and mindset to win. This had a huge impact on Michael and became the genesis of the culture that exists at Opus today.
After making the bold decision to start Opus. Michael and his wife Melissa visited a Telecoms Exhibition in Brighton. It was here that they chose the manufacturer and the products that they were going to sell.
“I liked telecoms because you were solving a problem for people. Panasonic was a robust product and a robust name at the time so I went for that”

What this looks like:
We work as one team, aligned, collaborative, and customer-focused. Decisions are made together, customer feedback is acted on, and communication is clear and consistent, so customers feel informed and valued at every step.
What it doesn’t look like:
Working in isolation, staying silent, or operating in silos. Lack of alignment or effort slows everyone down and prevents shared success.
What this looks like:
You act before issues escalate, take initiative, and proactively communicate with customers. You seek feedback without being asked, turn insights into action, and close the loop so customers see real improvement.
What it doesn’t look like:
Playing it safe, avoiding challenge, or sticking with familiar approaches even when they’re no longer effective. Ignoring opportunities to improve the customer experience or failing to turn insight into meaningful change.
What this looks like:
You take responsibility, even when it’s challenging or inconvenient. You persist, go the extra mile, and keep customers informed until the issue is resolved.
What it doesn’t look like:
Ignoring problems, deprioritising unhappy customers, or assuming someone else will handle it. Avoiding change and repeating the same mistakes.
What this looks like:
You deliver high-quality work every time by following, refining, or creating processes. You balance excellence with efficiency and take pride in what you put your name to.
What it doesn’t look like:
Complacency, resisting improvement, or dismissing better ways of working because “it’s not my job.”
What this looks like:
You take ownership of your development, seek feedback, learn continuously, and set clear goals to improve both professionally and personally. You share knowledge and learn from others.
What it doesn’t look like:
Relying solely on the company for development, avoiding learning opportunities, withholding knowledge, or failing to follow through on commitments.
We love to read at Opus

They embody the principles and values that have been integral to our growth and continue to shape the essence of who we are. Fancy reading a copy? Just ask our People team.

Our inspirations at Opus
Michael Senior
He has a great ability to clearly communicate the “why” and inspire staff with his strong morals. What he says, leaves us feeling that we are all a part of a strongly bonded Opus family.
David Callman
Dave stands out for his focus on progression, honesty, and kindness. He shows that leadership can be ambitious and forward-thinking while still being grounded in integrity and genuine care for others.
Oli King
Oli inspires me because he works so hard and lives and breathes Opus, he is the leader of our pack and leads by example. No matter what gets thrown at him, he will work his way through it and come out the other side.
Georgina McKenna
Georgina and people who have put the work in and gotten far because of it, showing me I can do the same if I commit and who aren’t afraid to be passionate about their work.
Chris Terry
Seeing where Chris has got to, inspires me and demonstrates what is possible and that I can one day achieve similar success over and above my own successes.
Ben Murphy
Ben Murphy really inspires me. From the very beginning, he’s taken the time to share self-development concepts with me and has consistently championed my growth. On top of that, he consistently strives to be the best for his customers, which is something I really admire.
Office Vibes
We of course welcome hybrid working as it provides a better work life balance, but we value in person connection in doing business face to face too, as it’s so aligned with how we achieve great things here.
We have created a brilliant space, which we are proud to work in. You may notice that the bookable meeting rooms here are named after Scottish Mountains. Well in fact they are named after Merchant Navy ships that our founder Michael sailed on during his time in the Merchant Navy.
Often at times, our office resembles a finely tuned ship. Think of yourself as a crucial part of our engine room, where your dedication to excellence keeps all systems running efficiently. Just like a ship relies on the coordinated efforts of its crew to work together effectively, our office thrives on your contributions.

The Workplace Culture
Kerry King
Having a senior management team that really care about employees and their job satisfaction along with the opportunities to develop or change career path. No matter the issues throughout the years whether these be professional or personal there is always someone at Opus to give me the support I needed at the time.
Lucy Bailey
I really value the opportunities for growth at Opus. From the beginning of my journey at Opus, I feel like I’ve been trusted with real responsibility and the opportunity to make my voice heard. It’s invaluable both for the skills I’ve developed and my enjoyment of my role.
Alex Briscariu
One of the most satisfying aspects of my job is the trust I have from Opus that my job will get done without a need to be micro-managed or having to be based at my office desk so my manager and other senior management can check on me.
Martin Ellis
Everyone pulling together to ensure that we have successful projects – we clearly explain then meet the customer’s expectations and all work together to reach this goal. A successful project (and therefore a happy customer) is my main job satisfaction.

How We Provide Feedback
Our Social Responsibility
We believe businesses should create a positive impact on people, communities, and the planet. This belief shapes how we operate, who we partner with, and the standards we uphold. At Opus, social responsibility ranges from volunteering our time to fully funding initiatives that support organisations in need. Each year, we dedicate a day to giving back to a local charity, strengthening our connection to the communities and causes that matter most.
“It’s very important to me that Opus gives back, it’s part of our DNA. It’s a joint responsibility to support a mixture of local, national and global charities and organisations in need, giving back our time, our expertise, investment and anything else that is required to help these organisations thrive. We all must work together to win together”
Michael O'Donnell
CEO
Here's more about how we support our chosen charities and their purpose
Renewed Hope
Renewed Hope is a local charity supporting people facing homelessness or hardship through food, shelter, and compassionate care. Opus Technology has partnered with the charity for three years, contributing through volunteering, foodbank donations, technology support, and funding the admin assistant role, helping strengthen operations and expand support to those in need.
Lucy Rayner Foundation
We also support the Lucy Rayner Foundation, a local charity selected by our employees that raises awareness of youth mental health and supports families affected by mental illness and suicide. Opus funds blocks of check-in counselling sessions in Surrey schools, helping reduce stigma and improve access to mental health support. These sessions have delivered measurable impact, supporting dozens of students and reaching young people who had not previously engaged with pastoral care.
Polar Bear International

Frequent Social Events
Opus hosts frequently fully funded social events throughout the year.
