What is an AI proof of value?
An AI proof of value is a structured programme that tests whether AI tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot are safe, useful and commercially worthwhile for your organisation, before you commit to a wider rollout. It uses real use cases, a controlled group of users and success measures agreed at the start.
Opus AI proof of value runs through five core stages: assess, pilot, governance checkpoint, enable and evidence. Each stage ends with a decision, so every step has to earn the right to move forward. Where the evidence supports it, agentic AI can be explored as an optional next step.
Why start with an AI proof of value instead of a full rollout?
Buying licences is the easy part. Value depends on the right use cases, secure data access, confident users and a way to measure what changed.
Without those, organisations end up with licences in place and no clear answer when the board asks what they are getting for the money. Proof of value gives you that answer before the bigger investment.
What are the core stages of Opus AI proof of value?
An AI proof of value moves from opportunity assessment through a controlled pilot, governance checks, user enablement and evidence gathering, so each stage informs the next decision.
| Stage | Question it answers | What Opus does | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Assess | Which opportunities are worth testing, and can we run a viable pilot? | Reviews business priorities, use cases, candidate users, expected benefits, licence needs and pilot feasibility | Prioritised use cases, initial business case, pilot scope and recommendation |
| 2. Pilot | Can a trusted group prove real use cases? | Plans a controlled pilot, enables selected users, tests agreed use cases and captures feedback | Pilot outcomes and use case evidence |
| 3. Governance checkpoint | Can the proposed pilot proceed within an agreed risk boundary? | Screens the proposed users, use cases and data against baseline security and governance requirements | A clear proceed, remediate or refer decision. Material risks may require a separate AI governance and security review |
| 4. Pilot enablement | How do we build confident users? | Delivers practical training, prompting guidance and support for the selected pilot users | Enabled pilot users and recommended requirements for wider adoption |
| 5. Evidence | What value and ROI can we show? | Measures time, quality, feedback and blockers against the original objectives | A value summary and executive recommendation |
| Optional progression: Agentic AI | After value is proven, which agent opportunities are worth exploring? | Where justified by the evidence, identifies candidate processes and tests them against data, ownership, benefit and governance criteria | An optional set of prioritised agent opportunities and separately scoped next steps |
What is included in the AI proof of value service from Opus?
- AI opportunity scoping and readiness assessment. Where AI could pay back, and whether your environment is ready for it.
- Use case discovery workshops. Stakeholders identify and prioritise the use cases worth testing.
- Security and governance gate before the pilot. Baseline controls are checked before any users are enabled.
- Pilot planning, pilot-user enablement and success criteria. A clear plan, trained pilot users and agreed measures of success.
- Copilot or AI-assisted workflow pilot support. Hands-on support while the pilot runs.
- ROI measurement guidance and examples. Opus provides practical examples and guidance to help you define and measure ROI against the objectives set at the start.
- Recommendations for the next decision. What to expand, change or stop, with any wider adoption programme scoped separately.
- A clear executive summary. The findings in a format decision makers can act on.
How is AI value measured in a proof of value?
AI value can be measured by agreeing clear success measures before a pilot begins, then tracking indicators such as time saved on agreed tasks, output quality, user feedback, adoption and any blockers. Comparing these results with the starting position can help your organisation assess potential ROI and decide whether to expand, adjust or stop the initiative. Opus can provide examples and guidance on suitable measures, but the collection, analysis and reporting of ROI remains the customer’s responsibility.
It is also valuable for regulated or assurance-led organisations that need to demonstrate control over their data, and businesses preparing a Copilot business case that need to show AI risks have been identified and managed. The aim is to enable organisations to gain value from AI without introducing unnecessary risks to sensitive data, compliance or reputation.
Who is AI proof of value for?
Are exploring Copilot but are unsure where to start, and want a structured first step.
Need evidence before wider investment to take to the board or finance.
Have high manual or repeatable workloads where AI could save meaningful time.
Want a safe pilot before rollout with controls in place from day one.
Have bought licences but not yet proven value, and need to show what they are getting.
Have teams with clear, measurable process pain that makes a good test case.
Why choose Opus for an AI proof of value?
Opus starts with the business problems worth solving, identifying the strongest use cases before deciding how many licences you need. Security and governance are considered from the outset, with a controlled pilot used to prove value before wider adoption.
Where there is a strong business case for Agentic AI, we can also identify opportunities based on data, ownership, potential value and governance.
Tell us where AI could make a difference in your organisation. We will show you how to test it safely and prove the value before you scale.

Frequently asked questions about AI proof of value
No. An AI proof of value can assess Microsoft 365 Copilot and other AI opportunities. Opus identifies the use cases most likely to deliver measurable value, then tests them in a controlled programme before wider investment.
Usually because people are unsure where it helps in their role, worry about getting it wrong or were never shown practical use cases. Licence activation gives access. Adoption needs planning, training and follow-through.
Role-based training on use cases relevant to their job, prompting guidance and clear rules on safe use.
A network of trained employees across departments who model good use of AI, share use cases and feed back what is working. Opus can design the model and train champions; the customer operates the network.
Embedding adoption after enablement helps people adopt AI in their daily work, through leadership alignment, communications, champions and support that reduces resistance.
Training is one part of adoption. Adoption also covers strategy, leadership alignment, change management and measuring usage over time.
Use available Microsoft 365 usage reporting, user feedback and agreed use-case outcomes. Opus can define the measurement approach; the customer owns ongoing monitoring and action.
Baseline governance should come first, so that wider use of AI does not widen data exposure. Governance then develops alongside adoption.
